Our Parish Mission Statement:
To Live and Preach the Gospel through the Example of our Lives

DATE: December 18, 2011

Our longed for Messiah’s birthday will soon be celebrated before we know it – next week!

Last minute preparations will certainly be top on the list as we buy that last minute Christmas gift for someone special. Or perhaps too, for those hosting the Christmas party, the late rush to the supermarket may happen to buy that last needed ingredient to complete “the favorite Christmas dish.” No doubt, a sense of urgency fills the air as we enter into the fourth week of Advent.

In the gospel this weekend, Mary is greeted by the angel Gabriel. Our Blessed Mother ponders what sort of greeting she received. Perhaps this week we can find the time to slow down and ponder (like Mary did) the beauty of the reality of our salvation: God coming to us a baby to save us from our sins. Prayer is so important! It can change us; it can change the world.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “No one, whether shepherd or wise man, can approach God here below except by kneeling before the manger at Bethlehem and adoring him hidden in the weakness of a new-born child.” (CCC 563)

Blessings to you as we’ll soon celebrate this most solemn time of the year.

Fr. Steve
